 Jaswant Singh Rawat was a resident of Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.  He was born on August 19, 1941.  His father was Guman Singh Rawat.  At the time he was martyred, he was in the rank of Rifleman and was serving in the 4th Battalion of Garhwal Rifles.  He played an important role in the Battle of Nurarang of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh during the 1962 Indo-China War.

 The 1962 Indo-China war was in its final stages.  Spread over an area of ​​about 1000 km at an altitude of 14,000 feet, the Indo-China border battle ground was established in Arunachal Pradesh.  This area is notorious for freezing cold and inaccessible rocky terrain.  People's souls tremble in the name of going to these areas, but our soldiers were fighting there.  Chinese troops were advancing by crossing the border of the Himalayas, occupying the land of India.  Chinese troops reached beyond Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.  Indian soldiers were also fiercely fighting the Chinese soldiers.

 The Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army were taking iron from Chinese soldiers.  The Garhwal Rifles was a battalion of Jaswant Singh.  In the midst of the fighting, the battalion was recalled, citing lack of resources and troops.  But Jaswant Singh decided to stay there and confront the Chinese troops.

 According to local legends, he built a firing ground with the help of two girls Noora and Sela of the Monpa tribe of Arunachal Pradesh and kept machine guns and tanks at three places.  He did this to confuse the Chinese soldiers so that the Chinese soldiers would understand that the Indian Army was in large numbers and was attacking from all three places.  Along with Noora and Sela, Jaswant Singh would go and attack all three places.  A large number of Chinese soldiers were killed by this.  In this way, he managed to dodge the Chinese troops for 72 hours or three days.  But unfortunately the person who supplied them ration was caught by the Chinese soldiers.  He told the Chinese soldiers all the things about Jaswant Singh Rawat.  After this, Chinese troops surrounded Jaswant Singh on 17 November 1962 and attacked.  Sela was killed in this attack but Noora was captured alive by Chinese soldiers.  When Jaswant Singh realized that he would be captured, he shot a bullet himself to avoid becoming a prisoner of war.  In the memory of Sela, a pass has been named Sela Pass.

 It is said that Chinese soldiers cut off his head.  His head was returned by the Chinese army after the war.  His brazen feats of single-handedly hitting the Chinese army were also influenced and presented a bronze statue of Rawat.  It is said in some stories that Jaswant Singh Rawat did not shoot himself but was captured and hanged by Chinese soldiers.

 The Honor.

 The outpost at which Jaswant Singh fought the last battle has now been renamed Jaswantgarh and a temple has been built in his memory there.  The things related to them in the temple are still preserved today.  Five soldiers have been deployed to maintain their rooms.  Those five soldiers bed them at night, press uniforms and even polish shoes.  The soldiers put a bed tea for them at 4.30 in the morning, breakfast at 9 and food at 7 in the evening.

 Promotion and leave even after death

 They get promotion even after death.  He has become a Major General by promotion to the rank of Rifleman.  On his behalf, the people of his home apply for leave and on being discharged, the army personnel take his portrait with full military honors to his ancestral village.  At the end of the holiday, his portrait is taken back to Jaswant Garh.

 Army personnel believe that even Jaswant Singh's soul protects the outpost.  He says that he also guides Indian soldiers.  If a soldier falls asleep while on duty, he wakes them up.  He is not martyred in front of his name and it is believed that he is on duty.
